Business casual is a term used to describe a type of office dress code or clothing style that is a little more than traditional business wear. It means neat yet casual attire so we can say it is the informal version of business professional attire. Business casual is like the middle ground between formal and business wear and the ”street wear”.

Business casual is applicable to various workplaces and people’s interpretation of that term varies. it is important to study your (superiors at) workplace to understand the level of business casual look that is acceptable. The understanding of your workplace will give you a better sense of judgement of how to dress to work – as people in a completely formal workplace will wear more of business professional outfits but in a more relaxed work environment where there is more flexibility, it will be easy to incorporate casual items into your office wears.

Although business casual can be tricky to interpret, it still gives you a wide range of options to choose from. You are not restricted by colours and prints too, so you don’t have to wear those depressing line of black or grey slacks and sweaters.

No matter what your work is, you should aim to look professionally dressed but not in a tensed up way rather ensure you wear a more relax pulled together outfit. Note that a dress might be ‘dressy’ but not office friendly because clothing certainly doesn’t determine one’s actual competence and credibility but it does however influence people’s perception of one’s qualities which impacts career opportunities. Hence, the saying ‘dress the way you want to be addressed’, as much as you don’t want to look too formal, you don’t want to have a messy outlook.
