THE SHIMMERING IGBO TRADITIONAL WEDDING OF SHALOM AND CHINEDU
Birth, marriage and burial are considered the three most important family events in most cultures, and Igboland is not an exception to that. The Igbo people of Eastern Nigeria are an enterprising ethnic group, and are noted for their rich culture and traditions.
Marriage in Igboland is not just an affair between the future husband and wife but also involves the parents, the extended family and villages. Just like every other Nigerian wedding, it all starts at the bride’s house with the groom’s family coming for a visit to ask for the bride’s hand in marriage for their son. After which comes the bride’s price settlement (Ika-Akalika) and bride price which starts with the groom accompanied by his father and elders visiting the bride’s compound
That was exactly the way Chinedu and his family asked for Shalom’s hand in marriage. Shalom with her dazzling smile kick-started her traditional wedding by going around selling boiled eggs to the guests, showing to both families that she has the capability to open a shop and make money. Then, Shalom went to look for her groom, Chinedu in the guests with her cup of palm wine filled by her father. After finding her groom, it was all smiles and dance galore for the beginning of yet another home. Beautiful Shalom was glammed up by Attraction Signature in a simple bridal make-up and dressed in a shimmering gold off-shoulder blouse and wrapper with a statement neck-piece. Chinedu went for the traditional Isiagu top which resembles the African Dashiki and a gold wrapper with the traditional striped cap. Shalom and Chinedu’s traditional wedding moments was captured by Spectra Studios.
