GORGEOUS ASOEBI STYLES YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE
Asoebi is a Yoruba word which simply means, ‘Cloth of the family’. The word used to denote family, but now friends are also associated with it. It is worn at a wedding ceremony or social event to denote unity, support, and represent sides of the family. It ranges from Ankara to Lace, Satin and even Velvet materials. It is a uniform dress that is traditionally worn in Nigeria. The term has gone beyond the shores of Nigeria to be used in other places in Africa. Although, it may be referred using other terms.
The purpose of wearing the dress can be to serve as self-identification with age mates, relatives or friends during social occasions or funerals.
For instance, at a wedding ceremony, all the bride’s friends might wear white and peach while the groom’s friends will wear white and purple. This differentiates them from the other guests.Usually at weddings, the various fabrics for the aso ebi are decided by the bride, and then announced to all the guests months in advance so they can prepare their outfits.
