We don’t have to tell you that the Ankara fabric has taken over the Nigerian Fashion world.

The Ankara which is made from cotton and designed to fit the cultures and traditions of Africans, is in full swing and I dare refer to this phase as the Instagram effect.

Now that we have already welcomed the fabric into our everyday wardrobe it is left for young designers to fill us up with creative and interesting Ankara styles.

The Ankara fabric used to be reserved for owambe’s and Fridays only.

The joys of rocking this fabric was muffled with the sound of statements like “Ankara’s are for casual Fridays and weekends only”.

One designer set out to show the world that this fabric isn’t just meant for some days it’s a fabric du jour and so fast forward to this moment there is an abundance of fashion designers that have followed suit, creating styles using the Ankara fabric or creating an entire collection with the fabric.

Keeping things fresh is what many of these designers aim for and so the fabric has been created into so many styles; athleisure or sports wear (joggers pants and bomber jacket) slogan tea shirts, wide leg trousers and a whole lot more.

This tells you that the fabric has gone across the board from its trademark “Fridays only” styles to more modern and urban chic styles.

With March just starting out many of us have shopping on our minds and so we’ve already put aside a small fund, let’s use these funds wisely by getting our favorite Ankara pieces from the market better still let’s get them sewn.
