GELE PICTURES THAT ARE JUST TOO INCREDIBLE

As a child I remember when my mum and/or aunt had a wedding event or ceremony to attend they would go to their tailors at Oshodi market (trust me guys this was all the way on the other side of town since we lived in the outskirts of Lagos) who was skilled in the art of gele tying. The woman would tie it up and use pins so that the gele would hold considering the fact that it was quite a distance from Oshodi to our end of town.

As good kids we didn’t touch the already styles gele until after they had both returned from the event, if it still held tight they would ask us not to play with it because they would want to rock it to church on Sunday. It was fun putting the Gele on our heads (me and my sister) but as we grew up we became so westernized that we didn’t much care for it anymore, however that has changed.

Prior to this aso ebi era, gele’s were reserved for the elderly, young girls would rather let their hair loose and free, showing off their hairstyles instead while their mothers looked splendid in a gele that matched their shoes. With the turn of time, things have definitely changed and now the head gear is something that both young and old can enjoy.

Its a delight seeing so many young girls rocking the traditional head gear with such style and precision and you can’t help but fall in love with the incredible and creative ways some of these gele’s are tied. Well lets check out some fantastic gele tying styles…
